Sofia Forneris
Verona
Sofia Forneris, born in 2004, is a Paralympic athlete from Verona. She joined Obiettivo3 at a very young age, still a minor, eager to improve her sporting performance. She has always loved sport, ever since she played volleyball as a child. She did this for six years before turning to athletics. But fate took her down a different path. At 13, she was diagnosed with a bone marrow tumour that required extensive treatment and a long period of hospitalisation. Sofia lost the use of her lower limbs and had to start a new life with the help of friends and family.
She enrolled in art school and in 2019 began doing archery, soon making it onto the Paralympic national team. At the same time, she set herself the goal of becoming more and more independent and slowly managed to take public transport on her own and go to school without needing assistance. In 2021, at her mother’s urging, she turned to winter sports and was recruited by the ObiettivoSci initiative. Another step towards a complete sporting education, in addition to her other hobbies, drawing and reading.
