Mauro Preziosa

Mauro Preziosa
Bisceglie (Bat)

Mauro Preziosa, born in 1980, is an Apulian athlete from Bisceglie. He’s had a spastic paraparesis since birth and took up sport at the age of 12. His first love was swimming, a speciality in which he began competing in his first official Paralympic events at the end of the 1990s. Several surgeries required him to take a long break, but he returned to competitive swimming in 2008, the year in which he won the gold medal at the Italian championships in the 50 butterfly category. After further successes and progressive improvement in new specialities such as the 400 freestyle, Mauro came across Obiettivo3.

After submitting his application, he travelled almost 1000 km alone by train to join his new teammates at the Spilimbergo recruitment event. From that moment on, he also started practising hand-biking, joining the Cavallaro club in Bisceglie. Alongside paracycling, he also started to successfully practice horse riding. After a couple of years working with Obiettivo3, he turned to paratriathlon, which combines his love for cycling and swimming.
