Marta Antoniucci
Città di Castello
Marta Antoniucci, born in 1982, is an Umbrian C2 cyclist from Città di Castello. She has a degree in international communication with a specialisation in marketing and works in the banking sector. Sport has always been her greatest passion, her ultimate expression of well-being. From a very young age, she ran and played football, until the age of 23 when she had to stop after being diagnosed with cancer. The resulting operation led to the removal of several vertebrae and the installation of a back prosthesis, as well as leaving her with several muscular and motor impairments. For this reason, she stopped practising sport and after a period of convalescence, she concentrated only on swimming, more for rehabilitation than for sport.
Her issues made her believe she could no longer engage in any sport, until a friend introduced her to Obiettivo3. Once she learnt about the project, she decided to apply and was persuaded to try cycling. Her first rides were very emotional and joining the Obiettivo3 team also helped her to overcome some discomfort related to disability. With great determination, she kept on training until she won the Italian Paracycling championships in 2021 and 2022, both in time trials and road races. She describes herself as a down-to-earth, well-balanced, cheerful person who enjoys socialising and sharing her hobbies. She loves cinema, reading and cooking, and with cycling she has rediscovered the pleasure of competing, the love of training, and the desire to try to exceed her limits.
