Lorena Ziccardi, born in 1984, is originally from Campobasso but has lived in Lanciano for some years. She’s had a genetic malformation in her left leg since birth, which has required extensive surgery. She is deeply committed to her career as a social worker (especially in child protection services); in sports, the turning point for her came about six years ago.
The meeting with a physiotherapist, who would later become her partner, encouraged her to take up sport on a regular basis, leading her to wheelchair basketball. In this discipline, she was invited to the European championships with the Italian national team, before changing course and getting on a bike. In the C2 category, she became Italian champion in 2017 and 2018, and it was during this period that she learnt about Obiettivo3. After sending in her application and being recruited, she decided to change equipment and try the handbike, starting to compete in the H5 category.
