Ivan Territo
Palermo

Ivan Territo, born in 1978, is a triathlete from Palermo. His greatest passion in life is scuba diving. Right after high school he acquired his instructor’s licence and began travelling the world. After several stops, he settled in Sharm el Sheikh, until one dramatic day in 2004. During one of countless dives in the Red Sea, something went wrong and he found himself in the desperate position of having to save two lives. With great courage and cold blood, he did everything he could to bring his fellow divers to the surface, risking his own life and managing to save one of the two divers who were with him. But that act of courage came at a high cost: a few minutes after returning to land, Ivan lost consciousness completely.

A long ordeal followed, eight months between hyperbaric chamber and hospital admissions that managed to improve his condition, although he became a wheelchair user. In spite of his disability, Ivan, despite no longer being able to work as an instructor, kept diving and living in Egypt. After moving to Sudan, he returned to Italy, first to Sicily, then to Milan. He soon realised that he had to give his life a new turn. A television interview with Alex Zanardi introduced him to Obiettivo3. He immediately applied, wanting to swim, and in 2019 he attended the recruitment event in Spilimbergo, the city where he would move to start his sports career. His friendship with Katia Aere first led him to try handcycling, and then to choose his path: the triathlon, obviously with Obiettivo3, while the duathlon earned him a victory at the Italian championship in San Benedetto del Tronto.
