Francesca Caruso
Catania
Francesca Caruso, born in 1970, is a Sicilian athlete from Catania. Since birth she has had a paresis in her right arm, which led her, on the advice of her doctors, to practise sport from an early age. And her curriculum includes a myriad of disciplines. From swimming to volleyball, to softball, to the sports in which she’s had the greatest successes. She was regional canoeing champion, competing with athletes without disabilities, as well as dragon boating, where she reached the national team and participated in European and World Championships.
And then there are the two wheels. Motorbikes are her greatest passion since the days she used to visit her grandfather and father’s shop. She alternates between racing on cross and enduro motorbikes and bike races, first on mountain bikes, then on the road. A lover of mechanics, she sets her bike up at home, together with her husband Francesco. In 2019, in Marina di Massa, she met Obiettivo3 for the first time, discovered the Paralympic world, was fascinated and decided to apply. The following year, she was accepted into the team and immediately became a leading figure in Sicily. She’s a huge Elvis Presley fan and has a 21-year-old son, Gabriele.
