Diego Gastaldi

Diego Gastaldi
Velletri (Roma)

Diego Gastaldi was born in 1984 in Sardinia but grew up in Velletri, where he currently lives. He’s loved sport from an early age; he started with martial arts and volleyball, before turning to athletics at a competitive level. After a car accident in 2011, he returned to sport in a wheelchair, first trying rifle shooting, then rowing.

But as soon as he was on the athletics track, his former love for the discipline resurfaced and Diego began training for the 100, 200, 400 and 800 metres in a wheelchair, in which he holds the Italian record in his category. His greatest achievement is the two medals he won at the 2018 European Championships in Berlin: bronze in the 800 metres and in the universal relay. He also has many other hobbies, including cars and music. He plays rock and blues, and he’s even built a guitar from scratch, documented in a viral YouTube video.
