Alessandro D’Onofrio
Como
Alessandro D’Onofrio, born in 1986 in Como, has always dreamed of turning his love of sport into a job. In 2008, due to a senseless skiing accident, he fractured a lumbar vertebra and was paralysed from the waist down. In spite of the inevitable difficulties that followed, his dream not only survived, but began to take shape: in 2013 he tried his hand at para ice hockey, then, the following year, he began to devote himself to the handbike. In this discipline, his successes in the H4 category quickly led him to the national team and to a World Cup invitation in 2017.
His rise was abruptly halted by a training accident, when he was hit by a car and fractured his right arm and shoulder. But he didn’t lose the will to fight, especially after meeting Alex Zanardi, who encouraged him to join Obiettivo3, with the dream of wearing the Italian national jersey again. In 2022, he won the Italian championship, both in the time trial and in the road race.
